This paper focuses on the theoretical and substantive innovations developed by Michel Foucault, and specifically his understanding of the disciplined nature of bodily existence.

Gilles Deleuze January 18, —November 4, was one of the most influential and prolific French philosophers of the second half of the twentieth century. Deleuze also produced studies in the history of philosophy on Hume, Nietzsche, Kant, Bergson, Spinoza, Foucault, and Leibniz , and on the arts a two- volume study of the cinema, books on Proust and Sacher-Masoch, a work on the painter Francis Bacon, and a collection of essays on literature. Deleuze considered these latter works as pure philosophy, and not criticism, since he sought to create the concepts that correspond to the artistic practices of painters, filmmakers, and writers. Their final collaboration was What is Philosophy? It is this metaphysics that interests me.

Genealogy (philosophy)

Religion after Secularization in Australia pp Cite as. A growing international debate has sought to problematize the secular: to demonstrate its imbrication with religion, particularly Christianity; to articulate or advance something called the postsecular, beyond the nihilism of modernity; and to identify where amid this upheaval lie the resources for critique.

At stake are the potentialities of our religious inheritances and political futures. The questions of derivation and discontinuity that accompany the genealogical method are pivotal in the contemporary debate that asks how the secular derives from Christianity, whether in its discursive, governmental, colonial, or economic forms.

For Foucault, modern political forms of governmentality are best understood as emerging not through secularization but rather in-depth Christianization—as the proliferation of technologies of conduct formed in the ecclesiastical pastorate.

Foucault and Educational Ethics pp Cite as. By studying the constitution of the subject across history, Foucault examined the modern concept of the self. His archaeologies, examined the role of scientific discourse, and how knowledge shapes the relations and practices of modern selves. Discursive practices are exercised in social apparatuses; hence the genealogical studies of conducting the physical body and productive nature of power. Reviewing his works, it becomes evident that philosophy was not solely a thought experiment, but was an active involvement with experience that led to transformation of its subject, Foucault himself.

In philosophy , genealogy is a historical technique in which one questions the commonly understood emergence of various philosophical and social beliefs by attempting to account for the scope, breadth or totality of discourse , thus extending the possibility of analysis, as opposed to the Marxist use of the term ideology to explain the totality of historical discourse within the time period in question by focusing on a singular or dominant discourse ideology. Moreover, a genealogy often attempts to look beyond the discourse in question toward the conditions of their possibility particularly in Foucault's genealogies. It has been developed as continuation of the works of Friedrich Nietzsche. For example, tracking the lineages of a concept such as 'globalization' can be called a 'genealogy' to the extent that the concept is located in its changing constitutive setting. Nietzsche criticized "the genealogists" in On the Genealogy of Morals and proposed the use of a historic philosophy to critique modern morality by supposing that it developed into its current form through power relations.

Reestablishing the concept of life at the center of the epistemological discussion is essential to understanding its power and effects within a discourse that, prior to being scientific, is philosophical. In this sense, the present essay provides some insights into the concept of life by placing it in a kind of grid of intelligibility created according to authors such as Nietzsche, Bachelard, Canguilhem, Wittgenstein, Foucault, Deleuze, Guattari, and others. Thus, it is a possible epistemological approach to this concept at the interface between philosophy and the biological sciences with practical references from the field of education, where its function has been observed.

Genealogies of the Secular

Prior to the publication of On the Genealogy of Morals Nietzsche did argue at example the master's voice, the master's body or presence when one is being.

- Merde alors.
